Solos in tenor 1 and piano
5 saxes (no doubles), 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drums.
"In a Pinch" was originally commissioned by the Celebration of the Arts (COTA) Festival in Delaware Water Gap, PA. It was one of my early commissions and for many years was published by Kendor. It is now published exclusively here. "In a Pinch" is written in the style of Monk, and is medium tempo swing piece with no woodwind doubles. I'd classify it as "Medium Advanced."
Your soloists can benefit by practicing the solo section with the MP3 provided, in which my band played it down with 'no solos.' Your group can further benefit from hearing another MP3 of my band playing this piece with the solos. I also included the 'streamed video' of my band playing this piece as well. Additionally, I offer a few tips via video for any director looking for a little assistance in rehearsing this piece.
