Description

Recorded on The Thompson Fields, "Arbiters of Evolution" is a rather epic piece that features highly varied solo sections for the tenor (Donny McCaslin) and baritone (Scott Robinson) in which they conjure up images of the wild displays of the birds-of-paradise species in New Guinea. Aside from the score, I'm including video interviews with the soloists from our album, and an alternate mix of the entire piece without drums so that it's easier for you to get inside of the details of the horn writing. As you check out this piece, I strongly urge you to visit the birds-of-paradise project from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. There you'll get a real picture of my inspiration, especially in regard to the soloists. I've also included a video of me discussing the composition, and then a fun little video we made visiting Scott Robinson's "laboratory."
