Description

Recorded on The Thompson Fields, "A Potter's Song" was written as a dedication to trumpeter, world-renowned teacher, longtime friend and beloved member of our group, Laurie Frink, who also happened to be a fine potter as well.

Originally, when I first wrote this piece, I shared my process of writing this work for anyone who wished to follow along. Much later, frustrated with that version that I felt was harmonically stagnant, I went back and made changes by incorporating some of the moving harmony from the solo section into the beginning of this piece. The final recorded version reflects that change. I've included a video of the old version's premiere here, so that you can compare and hear the difference between the two. I've also included a video where I speak about writing this piece.
